I would like to Volunteer

  1. I am wondering if you are looking for volunteers. My brother-in-law Dan Cowie spent his last days with you and you made him and our family feel so comfortable.

  2. Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with Hospice. Our volunteers are an integral part of the work we do and we are grateful for all they do.

In normal times we run our volunteer training course twice per year – spring and fall. Of course, COVID-19 put the brakes on that and we are very hopeful that we’ll be able to facilitate a training this fall.

We begin with an orientation session that is about 1.5 hours long. After that, people who would like to continue toward volunteering submit an application form and we arrange a one-to-one interview. If, after the interview, it feels like a good fit for both the individual and for Hospice, the person is invited to participate in the training. We run for 10 weeks, 3 hours per week and after that, we arrange another one-to-one interview.

Our process to volunteering is lengthy and we go into depth on topics surrounding dying and death with a goal to ensure that the volunteers are well supported and are prepared to offer the highest possible level of support to our clients, residents, and their families.

We don’t keep a waiting list for the trainings but ask that interested people keep an eye on our website and social media accounts for information about orientation sessions.

If you have time and are interested, our website has lots of information and our Hospice Peterborough YouTube channel has informational videos about grief and our podcasts are posted there as well.

We’re grateful for your interest and hope you’ll feel free to contact us by email or call anytime if you would like more information. We’re always happy to chat about volunteering at Hospice!

    With warmest thanks,
