Client Service Volunteers

Client service volunteers are people who work directly with Hospice clients and their families. These people come to us from all walks of life and with a variety of skills and knowledge to offer. All client service volunteers must attend our volunteer training course which introduces them to the concepts of palliative care and helps to prepare them for their work with hospice clients. The volunteer role depends on the wishes of the client and family in keeping with Hospice’s philosophy of being "client centered".

Reception and Support Volunteers

These individuals provide a warm welcome to clients and visitors of Hospice Peterborough. The volunteer also helps visitors with finding and borrowing items from our resource library.

Office Administration Volunteers

Office volunteers play a valuable role in the Hospice office. The functions of the volunteer might include:

  • filing
  • computer work
  • library organization, etc.

Committee Volunteers

Many volunteers sit on the eight standing committees and other ad hoc committees. The role of these volunteers is multifold and addresses the needs of the program as required.

  • Volunteer Support Committee
  • Community Relations & Education Committee
  • Funding and Development Committee
  • Nominating Committee
  • Executive Committee

Board Volunteers

Hospice Peterborough's eighteen-member board of directors comprises a cross section of the community, individuals who have special skills in areas such as health care, social services, religion, and business. The board members, who act in a volunteer capacity, are responsible to the president of the board and attend monthly meetings. Most board members also sit on a committee and may assume other volunteer positions.
