MPP Jeff Leal opens funding doors for Hospice Peterborough

Today Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal announced that Hospice Peterborough will receive $2 million from the Ministry of Health to help fund the costs of the new Hospice Peterborough Care Centre.

The Ministry of Health has made hospice palliative care a priority area in our province. In the past 3 years, there have been exceptional strides in innovative practice and funding to support new initiatives.

“Today’s $2M funding announcement means so much for our community and it marks a significant milestone in the Every Moment Matters campaign.  These funds support the additional capital costs associated with the structural deficiencies identified in the spring and our need to demolish and redesign our community program wing” says Linda, Sunderland, Executive Director.

Combined with generous Every Moment Matters donations and outstanding pledges still to be received, this Ontario Ministry of Health capital funding means we have reached our expanded fundraising goal!

With renewed energy Hospice Peterborough Volunteers and Staff will now focus on building and preparing for individuals and their families and friends who will need 24/7 end–of-life care and enhanced community programs for those living with life-threatening illness and grief. Completing the project as soon as possible is important because every delay negatively impacts Hospice clients.

Sunderland continued to say, “I want to emphasize the significant difference each and every donor, volunteer and funder has made during the Every Moment Matters campaign. YOU have all made a difference in the lives of those living with or affected by life-threatening illness and grief. YOU are helping build a legacy of compassionate care for our community. So thank YOU all”.
