Peterborough – Close to 100 Hospice Peterborough board, volunteers, staff and community supporters gathered on the afternoon of September 10 to celebrate the success of the Every Moment Matters capital campaign to build the Hospice Peterborough Care Centre and to launch Bring It Home, the final phase of the campaign. Kicking off the Bring It Home phase was the naming of the community programming wing of the new Care Centre. ‘Heeney House’ was dedicated in honour of long-time community leader and hospice supporter Goodith Heeney.

Campaign Chair Betty Morris, invited the broader community to pitch in and contribute financially towards the final leg of the campaign journey: “Now we are entering the public phase of our campaign. We still need to raise $635,000 and we are calling on the support of our entire community to help “Bring It Home.”

Mrs. Morris also helped unveil the surprise dedication of ‘Heeney House’ as many family members, friends and admirers came together to fund and celebrate the named opportunity in Goodith’s honour. Heeney, a community leader who played a vital role in establishing the first hospice program in our community over 30 years ago, was the most surprised person in the crowd as the architect’s rendition of the building dedicated in her name was revealed: “It’s hard to know what to say. The dream team is all around me – pulling this campaign together. It’s a proud moment for all of us who have been involved…and humbling.”

Linda Sunderland, Executive Director followed up Heeney’s remarks by commenting: “I hope this generosity of spirit will inspire everyone in our community to find their inner Goodith qualities and give as generously as they can for the final phase of the campaign.”

“We are so excited to announce the start of the final phase of our Every Moment Matters Campaign with the wonderful news of Heeney House”, said Alison Casey, Development and Community Relations Manager. “Now we are counting on our community to “Bring It Home” with continued generous donations. Every donation counts as we make Every Moment Matter.”
