Grief Support for Adults
Dealing with the loss of a
loved one is one of the most challenging tasks one can face in a
lifetime. Sometimes it is hard to find a place where you can openly
express all of your feelings. Often, as time passes, family and
friends become less understanding and supportive, and they want to
"move on". Yet, you may find you are unable to simply move
on.
Hospice Peterborough
provides a safe and comfortable environment to express all the
thoughts and feelings you may experience due to the loss of a loved
one. Our Grief Recovery Group members have all experienced a loss and,
therefore, have a greater sense of understanding for what you are
going through. It is helpful to be with others to acknowledge and
share deep feelings of grief. In the group, it is OK to feel and
express whatever is going on inside of you. Through the care and
support of others, you can deal with these feelings at your own pace.
The groups are open to all
Hospice clients as well as individuals in Peterborough county who are
experiencing grief. Interested individuals can phone Hospice
Peterborough to find out when the next groups will start, or to get
connected with our Grief Drop-In group.
Being part of a grief
support group can be a healthy step in accepting the loss of a loved
one and moving down the path to renewed happiness and health.
Grief Support for
Children and Adolescents
Children and adolescents have very
special needs when a loved one is seriously ill, as well as when they
are grieving a loss. Their understanding and ability in dealing with
their loss is determined by their age, development, and their
relationship to the deceased.
The support groups at Hospice
Peterborough bring together children and adolescents of like ages, on
a weekly basis, for a time of sharing and support. Various exercises,
including journal writing and use of art supplies, are used to help
the young people express their feelings and thoughts.
The group is led by a
professional who often works with a peer support leader. Click below
